The history of light sources

By creating artificial light, mankind has always tried to change the rithm of day and night as dictated by the sun. Until a few centuries ago, this was done by means of chemical light sources, such as candles and oil-lamps. About two centuries ago, the first experiments were conducted that lead to the development of the electrical light sources that we know now.

The history of electrical light sources is treated by Maxime Gendre in: Two Centuries of Electric Light Source Innovations (pdf, 183 kb).
